iOS 7 Expected Features

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 30 April 2013 0 komentar
As we all know “Change is the nature of the universe”, we always want something new that make our lives more exciting, provide more gestures, fill colors and put extravagant pixels on our finger tips, that our eyes can’t differentiate them. World’s leading smart phone giant is about to launch its most advance mobile operating system that will run on i-Devices called iOS-7.

In this era of robust mobile devices, operating system plays huge role for success of the device. Several unique feature provided by operating system can attract crowd to purchase the device along with design and hardware residing the devices.

Here we are going to enlist those entire features, which will boom the market of i-Devices as well as iOS 7.

Application Enhancement:

1) Screen Sharing Feature
All mac users must be aware of Screen sharing feature provided by Mac OSX. We mac users always want each thing present in Mac OSX should be inside your tiny mac (iPhone / iPad).

2) Camera App Enhancement
There is a separate category for photo editing app on app store. People are always seeking for the app using which they can show-off on social portals by applying Sepia, Negative or Vintage theme. But these are old-fashioned way to edit your photograph or images.

Some innovative ideas are expected to be integrated with Camera app that can excite users to take picture only using device running on iOS.

3) Customizable Theme, Lock screen and notification Bar
“Real Power lies in the customization”. Sometimes there are too many restrictions for iOS users being unable to customize few settings. To overcome this restriction people are tempted to do Jailbreak, which voids warranty from Apple.

Apple should provide little freedom to their users in this version of iOS by enabling them to customize their Theme, Lock Screen as well as Notification Bar.

Apple should also provide API to their iOS application developer to bring more innovative customization.

4) “i-Creative”
One app is still missing in core apps provided by Apple or built-in apps for iOS, that is app for creative people who always want to produce some artistic object by playing and integrating Photos, Music, Text, Drawing and other creative stuff altogether.

5) Facetime Enhancement for Group Chat
Apple has always improved on Facetime and iMessage. In this iOS upgrade we expect further enhancement of Facetime to provide group videoconference.

6) iCloud + Music
In iOS 7, we expect some portion of iCloud will be extended to Music Library, where user can save his favorite music track.  From iCloud user will be able to stream music to ‘N’ number of devices where he/she uses same iCloud account.
This enhancement will save few devices’ memory that is to be utilized for some other purpose.

7) Emergency Weather Buzzer
This will act as an emergency alarm for users. It can be either core OS feature or a separate app for specific advance weather dependent functionality.

Hardware Enhancement

1) RFID technology integration with iOS
If Apple integrates RFID technology and configurable Tag Detection using iPhone, then user can operate Car, Garage door and Door-lock system simply by showing iPhone to the sensors.

Even you can eliminate smart key in 5-Star Hotel, just by replacing it with Hotel/Motel specific an iOS APP.

2) Magnetic Chip integration with iOS
If Apple integrate configurable smart magnetic chip with iPhone in upcoming model and provide a way to use iPhone as passes used for Bus, Train, Tram and many more.

Smartphone AND Tablet: The Unique Padfone 2

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 26 April 2013 0 komentar
Up until last year, the world smartphone or tablet users are given 2 major choices: own a smartphone and/or a tablet. Asus broke those dilemma and gave us Asus Padfone. It was okay at the market, but I woouldn't categorize it as successful however it did open a great freedom of option for users to have a smartphone that can also function as a tablet at the same time.

Asus Padfone 2 has just been released and I took a big chance in buying it as a replacement of my beloved Samsung Galaxy Note N7000.  Interestingly, my main reason to purchase Asus Padfone 2 is because 3 main reasons:

  1. Despite the drawback of not having replaceable battery, it combines 2 battery a 2,140 MAh and a 5,000 MAh.
  2. Despite of lacking external memory expansion, it does come in 64 GB which means more than satisfactory at current needs, at least for the next 2 years.
  3. It's a 4.7" phone and a 10" tablet at the same time, the dual personality that it's competitors are lacking.
Of course coming from SGNote, there are certain concerns that Asus Padfone 2 doesn't have like:
  1. SMemo and SNote
  2. SPen Stylus
Anyway, let's go deeper into the review, if you will, on the Asus Padfone 2.

Hardware:
- 1.5GHz quad-core processor is powerful enough for today's multi tasking
- phone unit is thin enough with circular pattern back for easy
- the rim of the phone unit is made of aluminum and felt easily scratched
- tablet felt sturdy but also a bit weak construction-wise
- excellent IPS screen, bright and clear, despite of only 1280x720 resolution
- built in speaker  are excellent and loud, tablet is several notch louder with bigger speaker. The location of the speakers are easily covered when put on the table

Bloatware:
- only a little, webstorage, app locker, etc. The most useful feature is the floating windows apps that can be accessed from the bottom of the screen, but only has limited list of
- power management is impressive although not the most thorough, mainly focus on power sharing and turning off network access for most apps during screen off.

Headfi:
- for headphones users, I think Asus has put a good sound processor for enjoyment. It reproduce flatter frequency, bass are tight and clear, wonderful details for sound separation, no apparent sibilance. It is recommended to buy or download good music player to paring up the potential.

Signal:
As usual like any other Android, standard sensitivity.

Making calls:
Voice are clear and loud enough. It doesn't have move reduction so bear in mind when you are in busy place. My recommendation is to get a Plantronics or Jawbone bluetooth unit for comfort (check my review on some of them in this blog)

Notable problems:
- tablet will always be
- Beware the tablet screen is not very protected from wear and tear. It is easily cracked on
- if you damaged either unit, it will be expensive to service it.
- no accessories for protection, however a Samsung size tablet case will work.

Those are my deeper review. My final recommendation is that this Asus Padfone 2 is designed for work and play and the same time, but it is not for children.

Ultimate Ears 700 : The Ultimate HiFi Experience with Mid-Range Pricing aka Cheap HiFi

Posted by Unknown Rabu, 17 April 2013 0 komentar
Alright, I have reviewed the one I called poor-man's HiFi earphone.  I recently has the privilege to own a air of Ultimate Ears 700 (UE700). Man, this earphone, although not the best of the best, is brilliant.  I think UE has given us the superb earphone that usually will cost us US$ 300 or more at only fractions of the price at US$ 130 - 150.

The Unit :

Build like tiny single driver but once you touch it, you will know that they ain't cheap.
Cable is more than suitable for years of use, plus it doesn't make a lot annoying noise when you wear it.

At first, you need to get use to the color coding, red ring for right ear and black ring for left. It has letters in awkward places for the designation that I failed to find them the first week I wore them.

The speaker driver holes are covered in tiny mess built into the body to protect the drivers from dirt or ear wax, so that is a good choice but cleaning the mess requires soft materials and delicate touch.

Also it comes with a hard box to transport it around with layer of rubber material in inner compartment. Excellent choice, but UE should rethink the locking mechanism since it easily opened accidentally in bags. I need to tighten the box with a rubber band to make sure that it won't be opened accidentally.

The Wear :

Find the most suitable ear plugs for yourself first among 3 sizes of silicon and 2 pairs (different sizes of course) of memory foam like material. These options are very wise and user oriented. Even Shure only gave 1 pair of such foam.

The sealing of the outside noise is quite effective, though not as effective as Shure or others.
And the most important is you can wear it for hours without discomfort, no more explanation needed. Of course you need to find the right fitting of silicons/foams first.

It is also plugging nicely tight without discomfort so you can dance lightly, no professional dancing please, or jogs and it won't come off.

The Sound :

Let see if I can describe the UE700 and its sound to you coz it is a challenge for me. This is a warm earphone.  I hope I didn't disappoint.

The first thing I noticed is the details of the sound that the drivers produce. I knew UE700 is a pair of high end HiFi unit, enough to WOW HeadFi contributors.

The Low End is deep enough, though not as deep deep as others in 2x pricing range of UE700. The impact however is excellent to my taste. It has strong impact without damaging your eardrums. The bass has a natural tone characteristic to make listening to music uplifting in the style that the musician intended. It is suitable for nearly all type of music that requires bass impact, but to me it is more enjoyable for Rock, Techno, and Pop (note I don't listen to Jazz). The bass extension is very controllable that you can hear the drummers hitting the skins with their sticks.

Mid End is satisfactory, even when compared to my trusted "poor man's HiFi" Superlux HF381. It plays truer to the voice of singers,  though some female singers lost some of its character and leaning towards sharper tonality. However, raspy and male voices are a joy to listen to.

High End is pronounced smoothly. You can immediately hears cymbals extension and high pitch sound in smooth characteristic, meaning that they don't overdo it. But when you listen to classical music, you immediately can detect that high high end is somewhat missing. I think my Ultra some HFI450 is superior in this frequency range.

Sound separation that usually produced by tuning mid and high end is expertly tuned. You can hear low basses strings playing,  which usually lost in translation. That means bullseye on details.

Sound Staging is excellent for a small, itsy bitsy units. Not as pronounced as Sennheiser MX760 or Ultra some HFI450. However, you can tell where the players located during recording of live performances.

Overall, this UE700 is the earphone that you will wear and dancing foolishly to the music without realizing you are acting like a lunatic because it produces tons of fun sounds in your ears. I did, unfortunately.

So there, UE 700. At US$130-150, it's not cheap, but the cheapest in its class. I call it the cheap HiFi. Try it first, buy it if this is what you are looking for. Coz I find this units are very friendly to the small music players since it is easy to drive.

Make Your Android Look Like an IPhone for FREE

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 13 April 2013 0 komentar
Making your Android look like the IPhone is pretty simple.
It involves installing a Launcher , A Notification Service , & A Screen Lock.
Take a look at how they look on my Android smartphone , I have also put up the Play Store links for these Apps in the Summary Below.

The Launcher:

Espier Launcher is the closest you can get to having an IPhone themed Android smartphone.
It has the looks of IOS , & even includes features like a Search screen , widget screen , & icons that replicate the ones on the IPhone.
Espier Launcher Home screen
The Search page

Notifcation Panel:

The Notification center looks quite like the one on the IPhone,
& also comes with toggles to switch wifi, data, bluetooth on or off.
Espier Notification Center
NOTE:   After installing the Notification Center , go to the Espier Hub App .

From there , go to Plugins for Launcher .
You will have to manually select the Apps whose Notification you want to see in this Notification Panel.
Apps like Gmail, SMS,etc. will have to be selected to be seen in the Notification Tray.
Only the Apps you have selected will show Notifications , others won't.
Also Turn "on" the Notification Service.

Lock Screen:

The Lock screen is also a complete replica , looks like the original , & works well too.
Espier Lock Screen
Do enable the lock screen by going to:
Espier Hub->Plugins for Launcher->Espier Lock screen Settings->Enable Lock Screen.

Summary

Now before you go on to install these Apps,I do want to make this clear that you will need at least 90 MB of RAM "Free" on your phone before you go Ahead with this process.
Here are the screenshots of how much RAM these Apps use:
Espier Launcher RAM Usage
Espier Screen Lock RAM Usage
Espier Notification RAM Usage
All together , they use 76 MB Ram , but to be safe have at least 100-120 MB Ram free on your smartphone.
If you don't know how to do that , or don't even know how much Free RAM you have ,
take a look at my Article on Speeding Up the Phone

Here are the Links for the Apps { These are all Google Play Links }:

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 11 April 2013 0 komentar
Recent rumour form iPhone world is that, iPhone 6 (or the iPhone 5S) is coming up with 3 more colour options. Until now, we have seen common colour’s available like none-more-black and whiter-than-white for all older iPhone realizes. However, common gossips claimed that the phone would land in eight colour options, including pink, yellow, blue, green, purple, silver and the standard black and white. A red edition that’s tied to a charity was also mooted.

Rumours about Apple's upcoming iPhone 6 (or the iPhone 5S) are having flexible screen. Actually, now it's not rumour as this has been confirmed by Apple’s recent patent wins, and the speculation is limited to whether or not the upcoming edition of iPhone will sport such a display.

Since after all this rumour, Apple is coming up with more colours. Recently, one of the popular, Japanese website Macotakara released some of the news regarding iPhone. It stated that the new iPhone 5S will have five different colour options, including the usual white and black. But the blog site had not mentioned out colour’s other than white and black. Along with that, iPhone 6 is come in three sizes - small, regular and large.
Another is launch date gossip. Till now three rumours, we have heard that iPhone is going to launch in June with market availability in July. According to Marcotakara’s report predicts Apple will announce the iPhone 5S launch in July and that shipping will start from August.

Blackberry Z10
HTC Butterfly also retails around the price of Z10 , but it has the same specs as the Xperia Z & not enough features to distinguish itself & justify the 8k difference.
HTC Butterfly
The Apple Iphone 5 , which is the most expensive & arguably the best smartphone , starts from around 41k for the 16 GB model. If you can afford it , you should have bought it by now.

Perfect Android Assistant

Posted by Unknown Jumat, 05 April 2013 0 komentar
There are only two Apps you need to make the perfect Android Assistant .
First is Iris , which is a pretty good app which registers your voice commands.
The Second is a text to speech engine .

1.Iris.{less than10MB}

Iris started as a spoof of Apple's Siri , & when I used it at the time of its launch it wasnt very useful { Just Like Siri  }.
But I gave it another Try recently , & I have to say that it registers voice commands pretty accurately ,that is to say , you don't have to embarrass yourself by repeating the same command many times.
Simple things like calling someone , Looking up the weather , Setting an alarm for the morning , work pretty good.
Nice App if you just want to play with the Voice command function.

2.IVONA Text to speech HQ.{300MB}

What is special about this Voice engine is that it has a great system,
& its in Beta stage so its absolutely Free.
I Downloaded the IVONA Nicole Australian voice because it sounds more life like.

After downloading both the Apps , you will have to setup Ivona as the default text to speech engine.
For this ,
Go to Settings->Language & input{under the system head}
->Text-to-speech output
->select IVONA as the preferred engine.

You can edit Ivona's settings to suit your own preference.

300MB for IVONA & 7MB for IRIS & your android assistant will be up & running.
You can use Ivona speech engine for other things too, like speaking out a text,an SMS,etc.
