Posted: 18 Nov 2013 11:47 PM PST

Oggl Lumia 520

It's been over a month since we've seen an update for Hipstamatic's Oggl and Oggl Pro on Windows Phone. The app was notable for many thing. Beyond being its own insular social network, it also allowed for users to "officially" upload images to Instagram on Windows Phone. Initial performance and usability of the app was mediocre, but the Hipstamatic team has been working hard since launch on updates. Today we're finally getting some more, let's check them out.

Navigon

There are certainly some choices when it comes to navigation apps on Windows Phone. HERE Drive is arguably one of the more popular choices among Windows Phone users, mostly because it's free. But there are plenty of alternatives in the Store that provide features and functions you won't get with a free app. We recently compared some of the top navigation apps on Windows Phone, but one of them just got updated today – Navigon. Let's check out what's new.

Dell pushes out new firmware for Touch Panel on Venue 8 Pro, reportedly fixes stylus issues

Posted: 18 Nov 2013 01:01 PM PST

Venue 8 Pro

We recently took a look at the Dell Venue 8 Pro, an admirable 8-inch tablet running the full version of Windows 8.1 (32-bit). Well-built with a Quad-Core Atom processor and priced at just $299, the Venue 8 Pro has a lot going for it besides just speed.

One optional accessory with the Venue 8 Pro is a stylus, allowing users to take notes or write out emails using a battery-operated pen. While not as fast as physical keyboard, it's often quicker than using the on-screen, virtual one, which is more common.

Out numbering your enemy in the Windows Phone game The Viking’s Revenge

Posted: 18 Nov 2013 12:54 PM PST

The Viking's Revenge

The Viking's Revenge is an interesting Windows Phone battle game.  Instead of relying on combat sequences and action packed graphics, the game relies on your powers of concentration and speed.

The Viking's Revenge is a game of conquest where you are called upon to defeat your enemy strongholds and occupying all the islands on the gaming screen.  At the same time, your enemy is trying to do the same.

Battle is done solely by numbers in that you need more attacking forces than your enemy has defending forces.  Game play is rather simple but the pace of the game creates the challenge.  It may not be everyone's cup of tea but The Viking's Revenge makes a decent first impression and isn't a bad gaming option to consider.

Windows Store and Unity

Remember back in June when Microsoft announced their collaboration with Unity and focused on helping developers create applications and publish for Windows platforms? Well, that effort has shown to be well worth the effort. As of today, Microsoft has announced that over 1,000 applications in the Windows Store have been created with the Unity platform.

Windows Reading List receives new feature in recent Windows 8.1 update

Posted: 18 Nov 2013 12:14 PM PST

Windows Reading List is an application that comes preinstalled with all Windows 8.1 machines; it allows users to browse the web and easy save content for later viewing. The software is very similar to other services such as Pocket and Instapaper, but falls short when paired amongst comparable services (no mobile applications, less features, etc.). If you are a fan of Windows Reading list though, you will be excited to hear that the app has received a new feature in its recent update.

MetroMail becomes the first full-featured Gmail app for Windows Phone 8

Posted: 18 Nov 2013 12:02 PM PST

MetroMail

Let's put aside a moment the disdain many here have for Google and their products. The fact is, a lot of businesses, companies, organizations and even individuals rely on Gmail for their email service and while Windows Phone supports Google Mail directly, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Gmail has on the web.

This morning, MetroMail has become available for Windows Phone 8 users. Mind you, this is no web-wrapper, but a native client. We've been beta testing it for a few weeks now and indeed, it's quite a robust app for those who need all the power of Gmail on their Windows Phone.

MetroMail comes from the developer behind MetroTalk, one of the best Google Voice clients for Windows Phone. He's spent considerable time on the app, making sure it meets all the needs of those who need archiving, labels or stars on their messages.

Google Windows Phone 8

Google and Windows Phone don't exactly have the coziest of relationships. The YouTube situation is a prime example of how Mountain View isn't too keen on helping support Windows Phone. However, they did just update their official search app for Windows Phone. Let's check out what's new.

Meet your new favorite web browser – Internet Explorer for Xbox One

Posted: 18 Nov 2013 11:25 AM PST

While Internet Explorer isn't the world's most well received desktop web browser, it can certainly do its job on the Xbox 360 and in Windows 8 mode on touchscreen devices. Despite IE already being a great console web browser, Microsoft is set to revamp your experience on November 22 when you grab your brand new Xbox One.

Kingdoms & Lords In-App Purchase Guide

Kingdoms & Lords In-App Purchase Guide

Gameloft's previous Xbox Windows Phone 8 release Six-Guns had so many different in-app purchases that we published a lengthy guide just to cover them all. Seriously, virtually every aspect of that game had an IAP component, with some feeling less optional than others. The purchase model diminished what would otherwise be one of the best action games on the platform (though I still enjoyed it).

Kingdoms & Lords takes a much different approach, as only one thing costs real money: diamonds. Players can earn the sparkly gems by leveling up and completing story battles against bosses, but that's about it. Run out and you might be inclined to buy more. Just what should you spend them on, anyway? Read our latest In-App Purchase guide to find out!

Lumia 1520 + CP-623 cover

Following the full review of the forthcoming Lumia 1520, it seems appropriate to show the CP-623 cover in more detail.

The Protective Cover for the Lumia 1520 comes in Red or Yellow and it will cost around $40. Currently, the Microsoft Store has it listed as out of stock, but presumably the case should be available this Friday. It's not clear if AT&T Stores will offer the cover, though AT&T sometimes passes on official Nokia accessories.

Nokia Lumia 1520 Review

Lumia 1520 Review

Nokia's latest Lumia features a massive 1080P 6-inch display and a Quad-Core processor, making it the most powerful Windows Phone to date

Back in April, reports began circulating that the Windows Phone 8 operating system would receive support for large, high resolution displays later in the year. Android has had such support for a long time, and Samsung's success with its Galaxy Note line suggests that consumers want big screens, no matter what the tradeoffs. This Friday, November 22nd, Nokia and AT&T are finally firing back with the first 1080P Windows Phone: the Lumia 1520.

Make no mistake, it's a massive phone with a 6-inch display and support for a powerful new processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. The question is, is it too unwieldy to use for the average consumer? How good is it and perhaps more importantly, who's it designed for?

Windows Phone Central answers these questions in more in our comprehensive look at the colossal Nokia Lumia 1520.
