Winter Sports drops for Windows 8, instantly becomes the best way for you to check your skiing stats

Posted: 04 Nov 2013 06:20 PM PST

Winter Sports Windows 8

One of my favorite apps this year has been Winter Ski and Ride for Windows Phone 8 users. It launched in early February and quickly became one of the coolest apps around. It's an app that tracks various stats when you're out skiing or snowboarding. You also get snow reports, tracking, and much more. A sister app was released later in the year called Active Fitness – it's from the team behind Winter, but aimed at general sports and activities. We've got the 2013/2014 ski season coming up, which is the perfect time for them to release a Windows 8 version of Winter. Let's check it out.

Xbox One's extra features may be bringing down its gaming quality

Posted: 04 Nov 2013 12:29 PM PST

Lately, Call of Duty Ghosts has had their guns pointed at the Xbox One – or at least that is how many people around the web have felt. With news that Microsoft's Xbox One won't be running the game at native 1080p, and instead a lower 720p, there is question of how the console will be able to handle gaming in the next 5-10 years (the predicted lifespan of the unit). Eurogamer decided to sit down with the developers of the upcoming Call of Duty and see what their explanation is.

GPS Voice Navigation is back online and available in the Windows Phone Store

Posted: 04 Nov 2013 12:21 PM PST

GPS Voice Navigation

The past few months have been a bit of a roller coaster ride for the Windows Phone navigation app GPS Voice Navigation.

Last month the app was recognized as the Best International App at the Mobile Excellence Awards. Then the app was pulled from the Windows Phone Store due to a dispute with Nokia Maps. And now, the app has been re-released with a few features missing and a few new ones added to the mix.

While we don't know the particulars of the issues that caused the app being de-listed, it's nice to see the developer being able to work around the restrictions and re-release a rather capable Windows Phone navigation app.

New policy for Google Voice means an end to MetroTalk for Windows Phone

Posted: 04 Nov 2013 11:32 AM PST

Google Voice

Google just can't seem to make friends with Windows Phone. The latest crackdown will come in May 2014 when the search giant begins to enforce its terms-of-service for its Google Voice service, barring third-party companies from making apps.

Google Voice, which used to be Grand Central before it was bought, is a one-number-service that allows users to have a single phone number to ring all of their phones—landline or cellular. It also allows users to protect their real number by giving out their Google Voice digits instead as well as send "free" text messages, since the service utilizes data.

Up until recently, third party developers could tap into the service, releasing their own apps. On Android or iOS, the demand for such solutions is quite low due to both platforms having official options for users. However, since Google shuns everything that is Windows Phone, there is no official Google Voice app for Microsoft's OS. As a result, developers have created solutions, including the top-rated MetroTalk app to fill in the gap.

Posted: 04 Nov 2013 11:08 AM PST

1Shot Beta

While we have access to the high resolution images captured on the Nokia Lumia 1020, you've got to connect your Windows Phone up to a computer and weed out the high-res files. 1Shot Beta hopes to change all that.

The Windows Phone 8 photography app captures images at the highest resolution and saves them as a viewable file in your camera roll. The end result, direct access to the high resolution images.

Green Jelly stretches onto Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8

Posted: 04 Nov 2013 08:38 AM PST

Green Jelly for Windows Phone 8

Hey guys, did you miss me? I've been busy playing Green Jelly, which you mustn't confuse with the band who performed 'Three Little Pigs' in the nineties.

This Green Jelly is actually the latest Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 game from Russian developer MaxNick. Xbox gamers should remember MaxNick's highly enjoyable Spider Jack and the boring-but-easy Turn N Run. Their latest game unfortunately doesn't have Xbox features (more on that after the break), but it is still a cute and approachable physics puzzler in the vein of Spider Jack.
