Review: Nokia Wireless Charger stand by Gibbage

Posted: 24 Oct 2013 04:59 AM PDT

Nokia DT-900 Charger Stand

Many will remember the name Gibbage from the 3D printed cases the designer offers for various Windows Phones. Well... Kevin "Gibbage" Miller hasn't put away his three-dimensional drawing board just yet and has come out with a stand for the Nokia DT-900 wireless charger.

As with the Gibbage cases, the stand is printed by Shapeways.com and comes in a variety of colors. The plastic construction feels solid with just a bit of flex to allow for easy placement and removal of the charger.

If you're looking to convert your DT-900 into a night stand or just have grown tired of your Nokia Lumia Windows Phone laying flat, the Gibbage stand is worth a look.

We know there's at least a few of you out there that wanted to see this, so we grabbed a couple of photos to try and show it off.

Foul Play Xbox 360 Review: a rousing XBLA brawler

Posted: 23 Oct 2013 11:48 AM PDT

Foul Play for Xbox 360 XBLA

Seeing as how we didn't get a new Xbox Windows Phone game last week, we'll look at a downloadable Xbox 360 game instead. Foul Play is a recent Xbox Live Arcade game from UK-based publisher Mastertronic.

Foul Play's title might make you think the game would have something to do with birds, but it actually refers to corrupt goings-on at the turn of the twentieth century. With a unique setting, witty writing, and charming art style, Foul Play is a beat-em-up worth playing. Head past the break for our full review!

myAT&T Windows Phone app updated, gets a nice face lift

myAT&T new version and old

While AT&T is sailing into rough waters with the recent signs that the Nokia Lumia 1520 could be scaled back, the wireless provider has moved in a positive direction with their myAT&T Windows Phone app.

The app that gives you access to your AT&T Wireless account was updated yesterday to version 3.0 and while there doesn't appear to be any new features (no change log), the design and layout has noticeably changed.  The new version is pictured above to the left and the previous version to the right.

AT&T Nokia Lumia 1520 to have only 16GB of storage? Say it ain't so!

Posted: 23 Oct 2013 09:53 AM PDT

Nokia Lumia 1520

It looks as if the cannibalization of the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1520 Windows Phone hasn't stopped. First you have the omission of the built in wireless Qi charging. Now it appears as if the Lumia 1520's internal storage will be 16GB instead of 32GB that was noted during Nokia World.

Specs for the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1520 at Windowsphone.com and at Nokia's U.S. product page for the Lumia 1520 lists the storage as being only 16GB. The only saving grace is that it is noted that the Lumia 1520 will have expandable memory (micro-SD card slot) up to 64GB.

Chickens Can't Fly returns to Windows Phone without Xbox features. Get the inside story here

Chickens Can't Fly returns to Windows Phone as indie game

Last month, Microsoft pulled 11 Xbox games from the Windows Phone Store, 10 of which had used Microsoft Points as the payment method for their In-App Purchases. At the time, we speculated that only a few games would return at all, and mostly stripped of their Xbox features.

Today the first of those delisted games has returned: Chickens Can't Fly. Unfortunately, it has indeed returned as an indie game. But hey, at least Windows Phone gamers can play it again – if they repurchase. We can't place the blame for this on developer Amused Sloth, though. They've just posted a lengthy explanation for change on their blog. As you might expect, stripping the game of its Xbox features came from a higher power...

Add a little snazziness to your Nokia Lumia 1020 with this leather case

Posted: 23 Oct 2013 07:51 AM PDT

If you are looking to add a touch of style or an air of ruggedness to your Nokia Lumia 1020, you may want to consider one of these leather cases made by Gadget2us. The injection-molded case is made to fit the Lumia 1020 to form and offer extra protection for the rear camera with a built-in lens cover. The best part is that this baby will only run you $8.00.

It's also reminiscent of the rumored Nokia leather case that never materialized.

Nokia sends filmmaker Casey Neistat a Lumia 1020 after Apple stole his video

Nokia Casey Nerstat Lumia 1020

Nokia doesn't shy away when it comes to opportunities to poke fun at the competition within the mobile industry. The company has taken a minor jab at Apple by sending a Lumia 1020 (with a note) to filmmaker Casey Neistat. What's the big deal with the free phone? If you're not aware, it has been reported that Apple stole Nerstat's video about the public queuing up for the new iPhone.

AT&T product page omits wireless charging for the Nokia Lumia 1520

Posted: 23 Oct 2013 06:18 AM PDT

Lumia 1520

It's been speculated that AT&T's version of the Lumia 1520 would, for whatever reason, omit Qi wireless charging. Nokia recently told us that there won't be two versions of the upcoming phablet but evidently there will be.

AT&T has their 'Coming Soon' product page up for the Nokia Lumia 1520, and while they have done an admirable job of promoting the new device, the specs specifically note that wireless charging is not included.

Nokia launches HERE Explore to help you find new places

HERE Explore

Nokia has always been strong in mobile mapping. The HERE mapping platform powers not only Windows Phone 8 apps, but helps provide navigation services and location solutions for companies like Garmin, BMW, Oracle and Amazon. It's a very valuable business unit for Nokia, which is why it's not going to Microsoft. That said, it's great to see the HERE team continuing to pump out solid progress on Windows Phone with cool new apps like HERE Explore. Let's check it out.

Microsoft publishes Update 3 changelog on Windows Phone site

Posted: 23 Oct 2013 05:24 AM PDT

Update 3

It was just over a week ago that Microsoft announced Update 3 (formerly known as GDR3) for Windows Phone 8. The update, due in the coming weeks for many Windows Phones, features numerous mid to low level fixes and improvements, including new hardware support for devices like the Lumia 1520.

Microsoft glossed over many of the changes in their official blog post, but they have now published the full changelog on the Windows Phone site.

The update refers to OS version 10501 and 10512, both of which are considered Update 3. While there are no surprises in Microsoft's changelog, it's still handy to have and to peruse in case you're curious.
